College and Career Advisor
My name is Dakoda Goodwin, Koda for short. I was born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee. I graduated from Sullivan Central High School in 2016 and started at Northeast State Community College in August as a first-generation college student. Shortly after starting at Northeast State, I quickly fell in love with higher education and embraced my love for learning. At Northeast State, I found a community that quickly pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new opportunities. I served in multiple Presidential roles that allowed me to find my passion in public speaking and helping my community. After graduating from Northeast State with an associate of science in Sociology and Speech Communication, I transferred to East Tennessee State University with intentions to study Psychology.
At ETSU, I was reminded of the love I have for higher education as I continued to study Psychology. In the summer of 2019, I had the ability to be a part of the McNair Internship that was developed for first generation college students, minorities, and low-income students that plan to continue their education into the masters and doctorate level. Through this internship, I had the ability to connect with other first-generation college students, which lead into the reason why I am so excited to serve in this position. In December of 2019, I graduated with my bachelor’s degree, and had the opportunity to become a NiswongerCARE advisor shortly following graduation.
